Body Psychotherapy
Fleet, Hampshire

About me

I offer body psychotherapy, which means that I address both the body and the mind in my therapy as our emotional history is held by both. This means that I work with not only talking but also with massage, movement and sensory awareness.

As a manager of teams, coach and mentor in the corporate world for more than 30 years, I have specific experience in dealing with workplace stress and mental health, along with the following psychological challenges:

  • Psychosomatic illness

  • Stress and burnout

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Self-harming and suicidal thoughts / ideation

  • Relational conflict

  • Sexual abuse

  • Personal development

I am currently a trainee body psychotherapist and in my fourth and final year of the Diploma Course in Biodynamic Psychotherapy (LSBP), which will give me a Masters degree level qualification.

I am a full member of the Association of Biodynamic Massage Therapists (ABMT) and a trainee member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), working towards full accreditation and as such apply to their code of conduct. I am also a qualified coach, recognised by the International Coaching Federation (ICF).

“The body keeps the score: If the memory of trauma is encoded in our senses, in muscle tension and in anxiety, then the body must also be involved in the healing process."

Bessel van der Kolk, MD

My approach

The therapy I offer is biodynamic psychotherapy, which is the life work of Gerda Boyesen (1922 – 2005), a Norwegian psychologist and psychotherapist. Biodynamic stands for 'the dynamic of life' and biodynamic therapists work with the premise that there is a deep intelligence guiding our growth and development, throughout our childhood and beyond. We repress traumatic experiences and with that also our aliveness and potential. However, we can follow the organic life force, release repressed feelings and get back in touch with our true self.

In order for us to process emotional experiences we need to really 'feel' them. Feeling our emotions means connecting to our body sensations, our breath and our nervous system. I offer a safe space in which emotions are heard and received, through talking and physical expression. Together, we'd explore and work with whatever lies 'closest to the surface' in any given session, thereby cleansing the layers of the unconscious from that, which stands in the way of feeling well within yourself.

Biodynamic massage

Biodynamic massage is an integral part of biodynamic therapy. Repressed feelings are held in the body as energetic charge that is bound and contained by the fibres of connected tissue in so-called fluid pockets. This may show up in your body as tension or pain. Through attuned touch one can help clear out emotional chemical remnants in the body. Often this release is accompanied by tummy rumblings and I may use a stethoscope to help guide the massage.
